The building located Place du Marchidial in Sauxillanges, dated from the 16th century, is distinguished by a facade showing the traces of a staircase with screws today disappeared. The modern bay replaces an old basket handle opening, the amount and departure of which remain. These elements, typical of Renaissance civil architecture, reflect a functional adaptation over the centuries.

The front door, decorated with heel mouldings and tabs, supports a central lintel engraved with a shield to the three corollas, a symbol probably linked to an owner or corporation. Inside, the screw staircase serves the floors, while the windows, formerly with stone crosses, retain profiled frames with carved pilasters and capitals. These decorative details reflect the influence of local workshops and the social status of the occupants.

Ranked Historic Monument in 1984 for its facade and roof, this building illustrates the evolution of urban dwellings in Auvergne during the Renaissance. Its location on the Place du Marchidial, the historic heart of Sauxillanges, suggests a mixed use, both residential and potentially commercial, as evidenced by the vestiges of the bay in basket handle, characteristic of medieval and renaissant shops.
