Origin and history
The building at 43 Thiers Street in Bolbec is a mansion dating from 1766, as indicated by the date engraved on its façade. Its architectural decor evokes music, a distinctive element that suggests a cultural or artistic vocation from its origin. Although its initial function is not specified, its style reflects the elegance of 18th-century bourgeois residences in Normandy.
In 1887, the hotel housed the Circle of Privacy, a private company founded in 1838 with thirty members. This circle, probably dedicated to intellectual or social exchanges, illustrates the social use of this type of building in the 19th century. The original commons have since been destroyed and replaced by garages, partially changing the original configuration.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 1 February 1944, the building is protected for its facade and roof. These architectural features, characteristic of the 18th century, reflect the heritage importance of the site. Today, its precise location is considered very satisfactory (note 8/10), and there remains a notable example of the urban heritage of Bolbec, in the Seine-Maritime.
