Gaspard Bocquet - Master mason in Paris
Suspected author of the hotel before 1766.
Origin and history
The building at 53 Bokanovski Street in Asnières-sur-Seine is a former mansion built before 1766. Its walls on the ground floor, in calcareous medium apparatus, contrast with the upper floors in coated stone. The building was sold that year by Gaspard Bocquet's widow, a Parisian mason presumed to be the author. Its architecture reflects the construction techniques of the mid-18th century, typical of the urban hotels of the period.
In 1852, the building became an educational institution and was enlarged by two wings in return on the street, now disappeared. This transformation marks its adaptation to the educational needs of the 19th century. In 1912, the garden was set to break through two new streets, while the old hotel was converted into a workshop for the manufacture of scientific equipment, illustrating its industrial evolution in the early 20th century.
Ranked Historic Monument in 1929 for its street façade, the building ceased all industrial activity in 1981. Between 1984 and 1987, it was restored to be divided into apartments, combining heritage preservation and contemporary residential use. Its history reflects the urban and functional changes of Asnières-sur-Seine, from the Enlightenment to the present day.
