Origin and history
The building of Agen, built in the eighteenth century, is distinguished by its architecture in the backyard, with two floors on the ground floor. It includes a central house body and two wings in return, typical of the mansions of the period. The façade is decorated with mascarons above the door and some windows, while the door retains its original Louis XV style woodwork. Inside, a staircase with a wrought iron ramp, dated from the same period, bears witness to the artisanal know-how of the Enlightenment.
Ranked as a Historic Monument, this building was partially protected by decree of 23 November 1965, specifically covering the courtyard façade and its corresponding roof (cadastre BE 189). Located at 78 Montesquieu Street (formerly 46), its address reflects the urban evolution of Agen, in the department of Lot-et-Garonne. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), suggesting approximate GPS coordinates.
Decorative elements, such as mascarons and woodwork, as well as the wrought iron ramp, illustrate the influence of 18th-century decorative arts in Aquitaine. Although the sources do not mention its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its status as a Historic Monument makes it a major architectural testimony of the New Aquitaine region, linked to the legacy of the former province of Guyenne.
