Origin and history

The church of Boux-sous-Salmaise, located in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a monument built over centuries, from the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries. This place of worship thus illustrates the architectural and religious evolutions of the region, from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 24 January 1947 bears witness to its heritage value recognized by the French authorities.

Medieval and modern churches in Burgundy-Franche-Comté played a central role in the lives of local communities. They served not only as a place of prayer, but also as a framework for social gatherings, celebrations and sometimes even administrative activities. In Boux-sous-Salmaise, as in many villages in the region, the church was a focal point of collective life, reflecting the beliefs, practices and social organization of the time.
