Origin and history
The Urval church, located in Buisson-de-Cadouin in the Dordogne, is a historical monument built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It is distinguished by a composite structure: two rectangular spans form the nave and the sanctuary, the latter being adorned with arches falling on black marble columns. The capitals of the triumphal arch, carved of foliage and interlacing, illustrate the artistic style of the twelfth century. The building also incorporates defensive elements, such as a square tower pierced by murderers above the nave and an elevated bedside, showing both a religious and a military vocation.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 9 June 1926, the Urval church today belongs to the commune. Its hybrid architecture reflects the concerns of the time: protecting places of worship in a context marked by regional conflicts. The noble materials, such as black marble, and carved decorations also underline the symbolic and artistic importance of the building to the local community. The accuracy of its location is assessed as satisfactory (level 7/10), and its official address is listed at Le Buisson-de-Cadouin, although the GPS coordinates are more precisely located in Urval.
The protected elements of the church include the entire structure, inscribed for its heritage value. The monument, a communal property, could potentially host visits or events, although the source text does not specify its current opening conditions.
