Origin and history

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of Chamoy, located in the Aube department in the Grand Est region, dates from the sixteenth century. It is marked by a fire in 1501 caused by gunmen, who partially destroyed the building. The facade and nave were rebuilt between 1828 and 1830 by architect Bert, from Troyes, after this destructive event.

The church's furniture includes 16th-century polychrome limestone statues representing Sébastien, Nicolas and Christ with ties. These works bear witness to the religious art of the time and to the local devotion. The church was initially a branch of that of Saint-Phal, attached to the Grand Dean of Troyes, reflecting its importance in the regional religious organization.

The transept and the church choir were inscribed in historical monuments by order of 7 May 1926. More recently, the entire building was inscribed by an order of May 15, 2025, replacing the previous partial protection. This official recognition underscores the church's heritage value, both for its architecture and for its historic furniture.

The church is located on Rue du Bourget in Chamoy, on the parcel 153 AC section of the cadastre. It belongs to the municipality and remains a place of worship and local heritage. Its precise location is noted with an accuracy considered fair (level 5/10), depending on the available sources.
