Origin and history
The Ursulines church, located in Auxerre in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, dates from the second quarter of the seventeenth century. This religious monument, typical of the architecture of its time, is part of the urban landscape of the city, marked then by a monastic and active educational life, the Ursulines being often associated with the teaching of girls.
The church gate has been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 28 April 1926, highlighting its heritage value. Although information about its construction or its sponsors is scarce in available sources, this type of building reflects the importance of religious orders in the social and cultural structure of Burgundy in the seventeenth century. The churches served as places of worship, but also as community and educational centres.
Today, the Ursulines church belongs to the municipality of Auxerre. Its address, approximately located at 1 Rue du Nile, makes it a point of interest in the city centre. The accuracy of its geographic location is estimated to be fair (level 5/10), which may indicate minor uncertainties about its exact location in heritage databases.
