Origin and history
The church of Fos finds its origins after 1550, when the first building was erected at this site. Damaged by a flood in 1772, it was rebuilt in 1777 in a sober style, with a single nave and two chapels ahead of the choir. This first building was marked by sumptuous interior decorations, including staffs, paintings (1772-1780) and false marbles, reflecting the religious art of the time.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the church underwent major changes, notably in 1907 with amputation from the north side. Lateral chapels were then extended to the bell tower, modifying the initial structure. The bedside, including its interior decoration, was classified as a Historic Monument by order of 26 August 1986, highlighting its heritage value.
Today, the church belongs to the commune of Fos (code Insee 31190), in the department of Haute-Garonne. Although its GPS location is approximate (accuracy noted 5/10), it remains an architectural testimony of religious transformations between the 18th and 20th centuries in Occitanie. Its interior decor, preserved despite the modifications, makes it a notable example of local heritage.
