Origin and history
The Church of Notre-Dame de Corbreuse is a Catholic parish church dedicated to Notre-Dame, located in the commune of Corbreuse, Essonne. Its construction dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries, making it a medieval architectural testimony. The building suffered damage during the Hundred Years' War and the Fronde, two periods marked by destructive conflicts in France.
In 1933, a new bell replaced that of 1737, which had become cracked, illustrating the efforts of preservation and renovation over the centuries. Since December 2, 1950, the church has been listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. Today, it preserves an 18th-century baroque altarpiece, decorated with a painting depicting the Assumption of the Virgin, as well as a 1901 stained glass window dedicated to Saint Roch.
The Church of Notre-Dame de Corbreuse embodies the religious and architectural history of the region, while remaining an active place of worship. Its inscription as a historical monument protects and enhances this heritage, while offering visitors an overview of sacred art throughout the centuries.
