Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame de Jugon-les-Lacs is a religious building built in the 16th century, located in the commune of Jugon-les-Lacs, Brittany. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 19 March 1926, bears witness to the religious architecture of this period. Today it belongs to the municipality and remains an emblematic place of local heritage.

The location of the church at 26 Rue Saint-Étienne is estimated with an accuracy considered "a priori satisfactory" (note of 6/10). Although available sources, such as Monumentum, do not provide comprehensive details of its history or transformations, its inscription in 1926 underscores its heritage importance. The building, open to the visit, embodies the central role of churches in the social and spiritual organization of Breton municipalities since the Middle Ages.

In the 16th century, the region of Brittany, and in particular the Côtes d'Armor, was marked by a rural and artisanal life, where churches served as gathering points for religious ceremonies, markets and community decisions. This type of monument, often in the heart of the villages, also reflected the architectural influences of the period, sometimes mixing late Gothic and Renaissance styles. The Notre-Dame church fits in this context, although the archives do not specify its possible sponsors or artisans.
