Origin and history

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Féternes is a Catholic religious building located in the capital of the commune of Féternes in Haute-Savoie. It succeeds a first place of worship built in the thirteenth century near the castle of Féternes, then dependent on the abbey of Abondance. This original building, dedicated to the same patron saint, was replaced in 1855 by the present church, then becoming the chapel of Châteauvieux.

The bronze bell of the church, melted in 1780, has been listed as a historical monument since August 27, 1943. She bears an inscription mentioning her godfathers and godmothers, including Charles-François-Marie de Regard, Marquis de Lucinge and Baron de Féternes, as well as Toinette Antelme de Bourgeois, Marquise de Lucinge. This historic piece was cast by Jacobus Antonius Rustelli of Locarno.

Today, the church belongs to the parish of Saint Andrew in Gavot-Léman, attached to the dean of Chablais in the diocese of Annecy. It is one of the sixteen bell towers of this parish and embodies a religious and architectural heritage marked by its medieval history and transformations in the 19th century.
