Origin and history

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Immaculée-Conception de Buffières is a religious monument located in the commune of Belmont-sur-Rance. Although its name evokes a Marian dedication, the sources available do not specify its architectural style or the circumstances of its foundation. Its name suggests a consecration to the Immaculate Conception, a dogma proclaimed in the nineteenth century, but this does not allow us to date with certainty its construction or possible transformations.

Both rural and Buffières churches played a central role in the lives of local communities, particularly in Occitanie.
