Origin and history
Notre-Dame de Pommerit-le-Vicomte Church is a religious building located in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. Originally dating from the seventeenth century, it was rebuilt at the beginning of the twentieth century, with the exception of its bell tower, which was preserved. This bell tower, square tower, illustrates a mixture of medieval Breton tradition and 18th-century classical ornamentation, with an openwork octagonal arrow overlooking a ventrus baluster terrace.
The bell tower, the most remarkable part of the building, has been listed as historic monuments since December 2, 1926. It is characterized by architectural details such as doric pilasters, a cut pediment surrounding an egg-eye, and rectangular bays on the upper floors. These elements reflect the evolution of architectural styles in Brittany, combining medieval heritage and classical influences.
The entrance door, decorated with pilasters and surmounted by a carved panel, is another point of interest. It is framed by doric pilasters at the corners of the west facade, strengthening harmony between styles. The church, owned by the commune, remains an architectural and historical testimony of the region, although its precise location is considered poor according to some sources.
