Origin and history
The church Notre-Dame de Rivière, located in the hamlet of Rivière on the town of Bettencourt-Rivière (Somme, Hauts-de-France), is a religious building whose origins date back to the 11th century, with changes in the 12th and 15th centuries. Built of stone and covered with tiles, it consists of a nave and a choir, without transept, and has a bell tower above the entrance. Its interior, vaulted dogives, houses carved capitals and classified objects, such as a 14th century Child Virgin and a bronze bell of 1470.
The church has been protected as historical monuments since a decree of 14 May 1973, amended on 5 August 2011. This small rural building illustrates the modest religious architecture of Picardia, marked by local materials and a simple structure, reflecting its central role in medieval and modern community life. The presence of carved elements and ancient liturgical objects bears witness to its spiritual and heritage importance to the village.
Owned by the commune, the church is referenced in the Merimée base under cadastre code C 126, with a precise location at address 34 Chaussée de Rivière. Its state of conservation and its openness to the public are not detailed in the sources, but its classification underlines its historical and architectural value in the landscape of Hauts-de-France.
