Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame de Rosnay, located in the Marne, is a religious building of Romanesque architecture built in the 12th century. It was originally part of the Cathédral chapter of Reims and the abbeys of Saint-Thierry and Moiremont. Its history is marked by a notable architectural evolution, with a Romanesque nave with five arches in the middle of the circle, completed later by Gothic elements such as the bell tower and the chapels of the transept, dating from the 13th century.

The church was classified as historical monuments by order of 20 December 1920, thus recognizing its heritage value. Inside, it is home to remarkable elements such as a 12th century Givet blue stone baptismal tank, a 14th century statue of the Virgin and Child, and a 16th century statue of Saint John the Baptist. These classified objects testify to the artistic and historical richness of the site.

The outside of the church is surrounded by a cemetery with a monument to the dead and a scent garden. A tomb of the Duhamel du Breuil family recalls the role of the Mobiles de la Marne, thus highlighting the link between the monument and local history. The building, owned by the commune, remains a symbol of the religious and architectural heritage of the Champagne-Ardenne region (now Grand Est).
