Church (Box AD 85): Order of 19 January 1911; Ossuary and closing wall of the cemetery: inscription by order of 6 March 1925
Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Tredrez, located in the commune of Tredrez-Locquémeau in Brittany, dates from the 16th century. According to an inscription, it was rebuilt in 1500. This monument is distinguished by its architecture, in particular that part of the south side, between the porch and the choir, which is vaulted according to the method of angelvine, a technique rare in this region. The three spans of this section show the fallout of ribs adorned with carved cul-de-lampe, testifying to a remarkable craftsmanship for the time.
The church was classified as Historic Monument by decree of 19 January 1911, which underlines its heritage importance. In addition, the ossuary and the fence wall of the adjacent cemetery were inscribed by order of 6 March 1925. These successive protections reflect the historical and architectural value of the ensemble, as well as its central role in the local heritage. The location of the building, although documented, remains approximate, with a map accuracy considered fair (level 5/10).
The peculiarity of the Angelian vaults in an area where this technique is uncommon suggests external influences or artistic exchanges during its construction. The carved culs-de-lampe, decorative and structural elements, add an artistic dimension to the building, while illustrating the architectural practices of the Renaissance in Brittany. The church, owned by the commune, continues to mark the cultural and religious landscape of Tredrez-Locquémeau.
