Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame-la-Défonde de Laon, located in the department of Aisne in the Hauts-de-France region, dates from the 12th century. This religious monument, now desecrated, is located on the ramp of Ardon, in the historic centre of the city. Originally, it was accompanied by a large cloister adjacent to the building, of which today only a wall of the nave remains, witness to its medieval architecture.
The site was partially preserved thanks to its listing in the Inventory of Historic Monuments on 13 June 1927, protecting the remains of the old church. These remains, owned by the department of Aisne, recall the historic significance of the site, although its present state will no longer allow its original appearance to be understood. The approximate address, 4 Rue de l'Arquebuse, corresponds to the GPS coordinates recorded in the Merimée base.
No information is available on sponsors, architects or major events related to this church after its construction. The sources mention only its status as a historical monument and its location, without details of its past use or its use. Current data are limited to de-acralization and protection of its remains, without reference to recent restorations or archaeological excavations.
