Origin and history
The church Saint-Affre de Loisin is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Although its initial construction period is not specified, it has been the subject of numerous architectural and artistic interventions over the centuries, reflecting its local importance.
The church underwent a first major restoration in 1729, followed by work on the choir, which was equipped with a new altar with torso columns dedicated to the Virgin. These changes illustrate the evolution of liturgical and artistic tastes of the Baroque era, although the precise sources are lacking to detail these transformations.
In the 19th century, the building underwent several restoration campaigns, notably in 1822 and between 1883 and 1892, showing regular maintenance to preserve its structure. The bell tower arrow, an emblematic element, was repaired in 1847 and again in 1900, highlighting the challenges posed by its maintenance in a mountain context.
The church houses a wooden Christ made by Jacques Boullier, dit Vasselin (1928–21), a sculptor and painter from Metz. This work, along with two stained glass windows created by Gabriel Gouttard (1927–2015), adds a contemporary artistic dimension to a building whose history probably dates back centuries. These elements reflect the cultural and religious vitality of Haute-Savoie throughout the eras.
Successive restorations and artistic additions show the local community's attachment to this place of worship, which has combined historical heritage with modern creations. The lack of protection for historic monuments suggests, however, that recognition is still limited at the national level, despite its regional anchor.
