Church: registration by decree of 29 December 1949
Origin and history
Saint-André de Sury-le-Comtal Church is a religious building built between the 15th and 18th centuries, located in the commune of Sury-le-Comtal, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument, whose location is estimated as "a priori satisfactory", has been included in the inventory of Historical Monuments since December 29, 1949. Today it belongs to the commune and retains architectural elements characteristic of its successive construction periods.
Parish churches like Saint Andrew played a central role in the life of rural communities in medieval and modern times. In Sury-le-Comtal, as in many localities in the Loire, these buildings served not only as places of worship, but also as a gathering point for collective decisions and local holidays. Their construction and embellishment often reflected the economic prosperity and social importance of the parish, marked by dominant agricultural and craft activities.
The protection of the church by decree in 1949 underscores its heritage value, although the available sources (including Monumentum) do not specify the details of the construction campaigns or any sponsors. Its exact address, 2 Place de l'Église, and its Insee code (42304) confirm its anchoring in the territory of the Loire, within the former Rhône-Alpes region, now integrated in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
