Origin and history

The church of Saint-Antoine de Coubjours, classified as a historical monument, dates from the 12th century. It is distinguished by its unique nave, flanked by two later added lateral chapels, forming a vaulted brick transept. The choir, narrower than the nave, is decorated with six columns surmounted by statues, while the bedside is flat. The openings were completely redone in 1899, and traces of crows on the north wall suggest the ancient existence of a stand at the entrance.

The bell tower, characteristic of the building, is pierced by three bays. Its upper part was shaved 1.34 metres in 1905, the same year as the restoration of the gate's feet. The church, located in the Bourg de Coubjours (Dordogne), has been listed in the Historical Monuments since 1974. A communal property, it retains medieval architectural elements despite subsequent modifications, such as the brick vaults of the chapels.

The location of the church, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 7/10), places the monument in the heart of the village, at approximate address 7 Le Bourg. The Merimée data confirm its membership in the commune of Coubjours (code Insee 24136), in the former Aquitaine region, now integrated into New Aquitaine. No information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary uses (visits, rentals).
