Origin and history
The Saint-Antonin church of Bussy-le-Grand, located in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a Romanesque building whose construction began in the second quarter of the 12th century. Its original architecture is marked by a vaulted nave in a broken cradle, collaterals covered with arch vaults, and twelve capitals carved with figurative, animal and plant motifs. These elements bear witness to Burgundian Romanesque art, while wooden cross beams, later added under the vault, reinforce the structure.
In the 16th century, the sacristy was built in 1555, marking a first phase of modifications. Later, in the 19th century, the choir was rebuilt and extended by a chapel between 1834 and 1840. Three restoration campaigns, carried out from 1968 to 1976, concerned roofs, interiors and facades. The church, which has been classified as a historic monument since 30 June 1915, is also protected by an order of 21 February 1931. A stained glass window depicting Saint Antonin, attributed to Paul Louzier's workshop, as well as liturgical objects listed in the Palissy inventory, enrich his heritage.
The building plays a central role in local life, as evidenced by the musical activities and visits organized to enhance this heritage. Close to the castle of Bussy-Rabutin, it is part of a territory marked by medieval and modern history of Burgundy. Archaeological studies, such as those of Viscount Pierre de Truchis in 1907, highlight its importance in regional Romanesque art.
