Origin and history
Saint-Aubin de Villeconin Church is a Catholic parish church dedicated to Saint Aubin, located in the commune of Villeconin, Essonne (Île-de-France). Built in the 12th century, it suffered destruction during the Hundred Years War, then was restored and enlarged in the 15th century. This monument, typical of medieval religious architecture, reflects the stylistic evolutions and liturgical needs of its time.
The building has been listed as historic monuments since 6 March 1926, recognizing its heritage value. In 1976, the Association de Sauvement de l'Art Français awarded a grant of 100,000 francs to restore its roofs. The church houses remarkable furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries, showing its central role in local religious and community life.
The location of the church, at 5 Chemin de Saint-Chéron, and its status as communal property underline its anchoring in the territory. Although the sources mention an average accuracy of its geographical location, its inscription in the Merimée base and its Insee code (91662) confirm its importance in the heritage of Essonne.
