Origin and history
The Saint-Authaire church of Ussy-sur-Marne has traces of a first establishment potentially built in the 11th century, from which the southern wall of the present nave could come. This vestige, although undated with certainty, suggests a Romanesque origin prior to the Gothic structure visible today. The current choir, built in the 13th century, marks the first phase of attested construction, characteristic of medieval religious architecture in Île-de-France.
At the beginning of the 16th century, a second choir was added to the north of the building, designed to house an ambitious decorative program, of which several glass windows remain. This extension reflects the enrichment of rural parishes during the Renaissance, when local sponsors finance liturgical embellishments. The modifications of the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, although less documented, reflect a continuous adaptation of the church to the cultural and aesthetic needs of the community.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 21 November 2013, the church is now owned by the municipality of Ussy-sur-Marne. Its inscription protects the entire building (cadastre E 438), including nave, choirs and remaining decorative elements. The location, specified as passable (note 5/10), would be located near the street of Lizy or the street of Changis, depending on the map sources available.
