Origin and history

The church of Saint-Cheron, located in the commune of Cavan in Brittany, is a Catholic religious building built in the fourth quarter of the seventeenth century. It is distinguished by its bell tower, erected in 1684, which dominates the building with a square structure surmounted by an octagonal arrow. This bell tower, flanked by two symmetrical staircase turrets, is crowned by a balustrade, illustrating the religious architecture of the time.

The south facade of the church preserves four large arcades dating from the 14th century, testimonies of an earlier architectural period. These medieval elements contrast with the more recent structure of the bell tower, reflecting the stylistic changes experienced by the building over the centuries. The bell tower, in particular, has been recognized for its heritage value and has been listed as historic monuments since 17 December 1926.

The church also houses notable works, such as a bentier, a Pietà and a Virgin to the Child, which contribute to its cultural and religious importance. These elements, although not detailed in the sources, underline the central role of the building in the spiritual and artistic life of the local community. The monument, owned by the municipality of Cavan, remains a symbol of Breton heritage and Christian architecture in France.
