Origin and history

The church of Saint-Clément de la Serra is a religious building located in Corneilla-de-Conflent, in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. This monument, now in ruins, has preromantic and Romanesque architectural features, testifying to its long-standing and historical importance in the region. The churches of that period played a central role in the lives of local communities.

They served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants, often linked to agricultural or artisanal activities. In the Conflent, as in other parts of Occitania, these buildings reflected the social and religious organization of the medieval period, marked by a strong influence of the Church and local lords.
