Origin and history
Saint-Denis de Roinville is a Catholic parish church dedicated to Saint Denis, located in the commune of Roinville, Essonne, Île-de-France. It is a typical example of medieval religious architecture, mixing elements of the 11th and 15th centuries, with a nave and bell tower in Romanesque style, as well as a Gothic choir.
The building was built in the 11th century and partly rebuilt in the 15th century. Its grand bell tower, dating from the 14th century, and its 15th century choir illustrate the architectural evolutions of the period. The church was classified as historical monuments by a decree of 21 December 1984, thus recognizing its heritage value.
The Saint-Denis church combines various stylistic features: the nave and the bell tower, in Romanesque style, contrast with the Gothic choir, reflecting the artistic transitions between these two periods. It is now owned by the municipality of Roinville and remains an active place of worship, while being a testimony to local religious and architectural history.
