Origin and history
The church of Saint-Germain de Boësses, located in the Loiret department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a religious building dating back to the 12th century. It belongs to the diocese of Orléans and to the ecclesiastical province of Tours, but is historically linked to the chapter of Notre-Dame de Paris. Its oldest parts, such as the first two floors of the bell tower, date from the Romanesque period, while reshuffles were made in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The monument consists of a nave with a low side, a transept and a flat bedside choir, reflecting this architectural evolution over centuries.
The church porch, remarkable for its eleven archatures in the middle of the hanger supported by columns with capitals decorated differently, was classified as historical monuments as early as 1908. This porch, dating from the 12th or 13th century, is separated in two parts by a large bay in full hanger, with five and six arcades respectively. Inside, a Romanesque span vaulted in a cradle, contemporary of the porch, borders spans from the twelfth to the fourteenth centuries to the west and two spans of the fourteenth century forming the choir to the east. The lower side, mostly from the 13th century, includes two 15th century spans, one of which, to the south, supports a small bell tower.
The entire building, with the exception of the modern sacristy, was classified as a historical monument in 1956. The church, owned by the municipality of Bosses, thus illustrates the evolution of medieval architectural styles, from the novel to the late Gothic. Its porch, particularly well preserved, bears witness to the handicrafts and religious art of the period, while subsequent modifications reflect the liturgical and aesthetic needs of the following centuries.
Linked to the parish group of Puisseaux and the dean of the Beauce-Pithiviers, the Saint-Germain church plays a central role in local religious heritage. Its history is documented by sources such as Monumentum and the Mérimée base, which specify its exact address (3 Rue de la Tannerie, 45390 Bosses) and its Insee code (45033). These elements make it a key monument to understand the ecclesiastical and architectural history of the Beauce and Loiret.
