Clocher : inscription by order of 13 April 1933
Origin and history
The church Saint-Hilaire de Venne is a Romanesque religious building located in the village of Venne, in Provence, in the department of Vaucluse. Built in the 12th century, it underwent major renovations in the 17th century, while retaining emblematic architectural elements such as its square bell tower, erected at the end of the 13th century. Its stained glass windows, added in the 19th century, complement its artistic and historical heritage.
The church bell tower was listed as historic monuments on April 13, 1933, recognizing its heritage value. Despite the successive modifications, the church retains an austere elegance typical of Provencal churches, with a square tower and facades without windows, as underlined by the guide Petit Fute.
The building belongs to the municipality of Venez and remains an architectural witness to the stylistic and religious evolutions of the region. Its partial inscription (the bell tower only) reflects the importance attached to this specific element, while leaving other parts of the church without official protection. The localisation of Venez, in a Provençal setting, strengthens its historical and cultural anchor in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
