Church (Doc. D 757): inscription by decree of 27 September 1963

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Dénezé-sous-le-Lude is a religious building located in the municipality of the same name, Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built mainly in the 11th, 12th and 16th centuries, it reflects various architectural influences related to these periods. Its designation as historic monuments in 1963 reflects its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this emblematic place of worship of Anjou.

Medieval churches like Denezé-suble-Lude played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of prayer, but also as a gathering point for social, political and cultural events. In this region marked by agriculture and local exchanges, these buildings often symbolized stability and collective identity, while embodying the artistic and technical developments of their time.

The building is now protected and belongs to the municipality of Dénezé-sous-le-Lude, now integrated into the new town of Noyant-Villages. Its inscription in the inventory of historical monuments, by decree of 27 September 1963, covers the whole church, identified under the cadastral reference D 757. Available sources, such as the Merimée base or the observatories of religious heritage, highlight its architectural and historical interest, although its precise location is sometimes subject to geographical approximations.
