Origin and history
Saint-Laurent de Marigny Church is a Roman Catholic church in Longues-sur-Mer, Calvados department, Normandy. Dating from the 15th century, it is distinguished by its history and architecture, although only the door to the cemetery has been officially protected. This monument bears witness to the medieval religious heritage of the region, marked by modest but emblematic buildings.
The gate to the St. Lawrence Church Cemetery was listed as historic monuments on October 22, 1926. This partial classification reflects the heritage importance of this architectural element, although the rest of the building is now in ruins. The church was originally located in the village of Marigny, a former integrated commune at Longus-sur-Mer in 1861.
The site is located precisely at 1 Route de la Buhennerie, in Longues-sur-Mer, Calvados. Although information on its current accessibility is limited, its property belongs to the municipality. The church illustrates the central role of religious buildings in the social and spiritual organization of Norman villages in the Middle Ages, where they served as a place of assembly, prayer and burial.
