Porche (Case A 412): inscription by order of 20 January 1926
Origin and history
The church Saint-Louis de Treffrin, located in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany, is a religious building built in the 16th century. This monument is particularly remarkable for its porch, dated from the same period, which bears statues representing the twelve apostles. This porch, an emblematic architectural element, was inscribed under the title of Historic Monuments by a decree of 20 January 1926, thus highlighting its heritage and artistic value.
The porch of Saint-Louis Church, classified under cadastral reference A 412, is the only protected element of the monument to date. The location of the building, at 1 Lost Ar Bourg in Treffrin, is documented in the Merimée base, although the accuracy of this location is considered to be satisfactory a priori (note of 6/10). Owned by the commune, the church is part of a historic Breton context marked by a strong religious and architectural tradition, where carved porches play a role both spiritual and community.
In the 16th century, Brittany, the settlement area of the church, experienced a period of relative economic and cultural prosperity, despite the tensions linked to the wars of Religion. Religious buildings, such as the church of Saint-Louis, serve as places of assembly and manifestation of the faith, while embodying the know-how of local artisans. The statues of the apostles, typical of the religious art of the time, reflect the importance attached to symbolic and didactic representation in sacred architecture.
