Denis-Simon de Marquemont - Bishop Visit the church in 1613, described it in good condition.

Origin and history

The church of Saint Marcellin in Bressolles, located in the department of Ain, was originally dedicated to Saint Marcellin and Saint Paul. Since the seventeenth century, it has been dedicated exclusively to Saint Marcellin. The first medieval records of the church of Bressolles remain unclear as to its exact location. In 1613 Bishop Denis-Simon de Marquemont described her as being in good condition during his pastoral visit.

The building suffered extensive destruction during the French Revolution, followed by a lack of sustained maintenance. These degradations justified almost total reconstruction during the 19th century. The church was the subject of two recent restoration campaigns: in 1977, with the lowering of the bell tower, and in 1991 for the renovation of its interior.

Among the outstanding items, a box with holy oils dating back to the late eighteenth century was listed in the inventory of the Palissy Base in October 2011. This liturgical furniture bears witness to the continuity of worship in this building despite the historical upheavals it has experienced.
