Church: registration by decree of 13 November 1939
Origin and history
The Saint-Martin church of Aincourt, located in the Val-d The village of Aincourt was erected as a parish in 1141, when a first church was built. This original building was almost entirely rebuilt in the 16th century, marking a period of major architectural transformation. The present church retains elements of this reconstruction, especially in its flamboyant Gothic style and cruciform structure.
The church is distinguished by its Latin cross plan, with a nave of four spans preceded by a porch. The square bell tower, located on the north cross of the transept, is accompanied by a tower of round staircase. Inside, the southern chapel of the nave, the transept and the choir with a flat bedside illustrate the flamboyant Gothic heritage, with characteristic rempling bays. The nave, not arched, houses an apparent frame in the shape of an inverted keel, while the other parts are vaulted on a dogive cross, adorned with hanging keys.
The church of Saint Martin has been partially classified as historical monuments since 13 November 1939, with the exception of the nave. This classification underlines its heritage importance, especially for its architectural elements of the 15th and 16th centuries. Owned by the municipality of Aincourt, it remains a testimony of the religious and artistic evolutions of the region, from its medieval foundation to its Renaissance transformations.
Located in the south-east of the village, on Arthies Street, the church integrates into a rural landscape marked by the history of the diocese of Pontoise. Its bell tower and Gothic chapel reflect the religious practices and craftsmanship of the modern era, while serving as an identity landmark for the local community. Today, she continues to play a role in the cultural and spiritual life of Aincourt, while attracting historical heritage lovers.
