Origin and history
Saint-Martin d'Égreville Church is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Égreville, Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France. Built mainly in the 13th century, it underwent significant changes in the 4th quarter of the 15th century. Its architecture thus reflects two distinct periods of medieval and reborn French history, with a 13th century tower and a nave redesigned at the end of the 15th century.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 4 December 1913 for its tower, the church was also inscribed on 19 October 1946 for the rest of the building, with the exception of the already protected tower. This dual recognition reflects its heritage and architectural importance. The tower, the oldest element, is a notable vestige of medieval architecture, while the parts inscribed in 1946 illustrate subsequent stylistic evolutions.
Saint-Martin Church is located in the heart of the commune of Égreville, at 60 Place Massenet. It belongs to the municipality and remains an active place of worship, while being a point of historical interest for visitors. Its location in Île-de-France, a region rich in heritage, makes it a representative example of rural churches that have traversed centuries of history.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its status as a historical monument and provide details on its protection and location. The accuracy of its geographic location is estimated to be fair (level 5/10), and photographs licensed under Creative Commons, such as those of MOSSOT, document its current appearance.
