Origin and history
The Saint-Martin church of Essey-et-Maizerais is a historic monument located in the commune of the same name, Lorraine (Great East). Filed by ministerial decree on January 10, 1920, it now belongs to the municipality. Its exact location, 2 Church Street, is documented in the Merimée base, with a location deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10).
This type of religious building, typical of rural villages in Lorraine, played a central role in medieval and modern community life. The parish churches served not only as a place of worship, but also as a social, cultural and sometimes administrative landmark for the inhabitants. Their preservation, as here with the 1920 ranking, reflects their heritage and architectural importance in the local landscape.
