Origin and history
The church of Saint Martin de Laféline, listed as a Historical Monument in 1963, is a Catholic religious building built in the 12th century. It is characterized by its Romanesque architecture, with a nave of four spans, an apse in semi-circle and a unique low side. The nave is arched in a cradle with a warhead, while the apse has a arch in a quarter of a sphere. The bell tower and span, dating from the 14th century, support a 37-metre stone arrow, emblematic of the monument.
The window of the axial bay, created in 1894 by the workshop Guibouret de Moulins, illustrates the scene of the Charity of St.Martin, where the young Roman legionary shares his coat with a poor in 334. This stained glass window is representative of the many windows created by this workshop for the churches of the Allier. The building, placed under the protection of Saint Martin, benefited from major restoration work between 2010 and 2013, involving local artisans and financial support from the State, the Department and the region.
The church also consists of a bell tower with a stone arrow, added in the 14th century, which dominate the local landscape. The structure combines Romanesque and Gothic elements, reflecting architectural evolutions between the 12th and 14th centuries. Classified as historical monuments since 1963, it remains an important testimony of the religious and architectural heritage of the Allier and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
