Origin and history

The church of Saint-Martin de Nuillé, located in Soulgé-sur-Ouette in the department of Mayenne, is a religious building built in the 1st quarter of the 11th century. Originally, it belonged to the commune of Nuillé-sur-Ouette before its current administrative connection. Its small-scale architecture (small-scale stone) is characteristic of the first Romanesque churches in the region, reflecting a period of transition between preroman art and the fully developed novel.

The interior decoration and paintings of the church date back to the late 19th century and adopt an Art Nouveau style, an artistic movement then in vogue. This contrast between a medieval structure and a late-century decor illustrates the aesthetic changes that the monument has undergone over the centuries. The building was listed as a historic monument on January 20, 1997, recognizing its architectural and historical heritage value.

The church is now owned by the municipality of Soulgé-sur-Ouette. Its inscription to historical monuments includes not only the building itself, but also the land of the former adjacent cemetery, bounded by a plan annexed to the protection order. This expanded perimeter underlines the importance of the site as a whole, as a vestige of a medieval sacred and community space.

Available sources, including Wikipedia, Monumentum and the Merimée base, confirm its status as an ancient parish church, known as Saint Martin de Nuillé. Its exact address, 5000 F Brg de Nuille, and its Insee code (53262) place it precisely in the historical and administrative landscape of the Mayenne, in the heart of the Pays de la Loire.
