Origin and history

The church of Saint-Martin de Villequier, located in Rives-en-Seine (former commune of Villequier-Bas in Seine-Maritime), is a religious building dating back to the 12th century, although its major reconstruction took place in the 16th century. The choir was restored in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building, built in stone, features flamboyant Gothic windows, characteristic of the late Middle Ages, as well as 16th century stained glass windows. The latter depict scenes of the life of Christ, figures of saints and a tree of Jesse, illustrating the iconographic and spiritual importance of the place.

Ranked as historical monuments by decree of 14 December 1914, Saint Martin Church is an architectural and artistic testimony of the transitions between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its cemetery houses the graves of the Vacquerie-Hugo family, adding a literary and memorial dimension to the site. The precise location of the building, 15 Rue du Président René Coty in Villequier, as well as its ranking, underline its anchoring in Norman heritage and its role in local history.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm that the church is owned by the municipality of Rives-en-Seine. Its architecture, marked by late Gothic elements, and its preserved stained glass windows make it a remarkable example of the rural churches of the region. The building, open to the visit, is part of a broader historical landscape, including the listed monuments of the arrondissement of Rouen and the Seine-Maritime.
