Origin and history
Saint-Martin des Loges Church is a Catholic church located in the hamlet of Les Loges, in the commune of Coudrecieux, Sarthe department. This small village of the Loges, formerly independent, was absorbed by Coudrecieux in 1808. The building, which has been listed as a historic monument since 1952, is distinguished by its Romanesque architecture, including its nave and stone bell tower, as well as by 15th century murals decorated with the vault of the choir.
The murals, representing musical angels, are a remarkable element of the church. The nave, with its narrow windows, could date back to the 11th century, while the main door in full arch has a double archvolt. The two-storey Romanesque bell tower is entirely built of stone, a notable architectural feature. A Romanesque chapel extends the building south.
The church also houses several works classified as objects, including two secondary altars, a altar altarpiece and a cross Christ. The association of friends of the Church of the Lodges conducted extensive historical research on the seigneury of the Lodges and the church itself, while actively participating in the preservation of the building.
