Origin and history

The church of Saint-Maurice de Boult is a Catholic building located in the department of Haute-Saône, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Rebuilt between 1723 and 1728, it probably replaces an older building, although the sources do not mention its earlier existence. The building follows a Latin cross plan, typical of the baroque churches of the region, with a unique nave, side chapels, a transept and a sacristy-framed choir. Its architecture, marked by an hors-oeuvre bell tower and a three-sided apse, reflects the stylistic influences of the time.

The reconstruction of the church was attributed to the engineer Jean-François Lurion de l'Egouthail, whose plans guided the work between 1723 and 1728. The building is entirely vaulted with ridges, a common technique in the 18th century for religious buildings. In 2009, the church was listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. The sculptor Jean-Pierre Galezot also contributed to his realization, although the sources do not specify his exact interventions.

The church of Saint-Maurice plays a central role in the community life of Boult, as evidenced by its total inscription (including its cadastre C 212) by order of 3 August 2009. Owned by the commune, it embodies both the local architectural heritage and the religious history of Haute-Saône. Its exact address, 9 Rue de l'Église, and its code Insee (70085) confirm its anchoring in the territory of Boult, near Vesoul.
