Origin and history
Saint-Maurice de Cuffy Church is a Catholic religious building located in the Cher department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Built in the 12th century, it is distinguished by its unique nave without low side, covered in frame, and a vaulted choir in an ogival cradle. The sanctuary, semicircular and arched in cul-de-four, preserves archatures full of hang and trilobed, characteristic of the Romanesque art of that time.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 30 August 1911, the church underwent modifications in the 16th century, including the reconstruction of the transepts. The base of the primitive choir, dating from the early 12th century, is the only vestige still visible until the end of the attic. The building now belongs to the municipality of Cuffy and remains a major architectural testimony of the region.
The church is referenced in the Mérimée and Clochers bases of France, and its official address is 3 Place de l'Église, 18150 Cuffy. Although its GPS location is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10), it remains an accessible heritage point of interest, typical of the rural churches of the Centre-Val de Loire. No information is available about its opening to the public or related services such as guest rooms.
