Origin and history

The church of Saint-Parres de Praslin, located in the Aube department in the Grand East region, is a religious building built in the sixteenth century. She is distinguished by her Latin cross plan, her five-sided apse and her vaulted nave on warheads. Its rich and varied furniture includes polychrome and golden limestone statues dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, such as those of Saint John the Baptist, Saint Sebastian, a Pieta, and a Mary with the Child. These elements testify to the artistic and spiritual importance of the building throughout the centuries.

Originally, the parish was established at Lantages, and the church was dedicated to Saint Parre. The current building, which combines elements from the 16th and 18th centuries, was listed as historical monuments in 1926. This official recognition underscores its heritage and architectural value. The church now belongs to the municipality of Praslin and remains a place of worship and visit, anchored in the religious and cultural landscape of Champagne-Ardenne.

The furniture of Saint Parres Church is particularly remarkable. Among the most notable pieces are a statue of Saint John the Baptist in calcareous brushed and gilded (XVI century), a Pieta in polychrome limestone of the same period, and a statue of Mary the Child with a bird, dating from the 15th century. These works, associated with a Christ with links surrounded by instruments of the Passion, illustrate the devotion and artistic know-how of the medieval and Renaissance periods in this region. The church, with its history and its movable heritage, offers a precious testimony of local religious and artistic life.
