Origin and history
The church Saint-Pélade is a religious building located in Réallon, in the Hautes-Alpes department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built in the sixteenth century, it is dedicated to Saint Pelade, a bishop of Embrun who lived in the sixth century. This monument illustrates the religious architecture of the Renaissance in this Alpine region, marked by strong ecclesiastical influence and community life centered around parishes.
The church bell tower has been partially listed as a historic monument since 1948, highlighting its heritage importance. Inside, three remarkable paintings are included in the inventory of protected objects: the Adoration of the Magi, the Donation of the Rosary to Saint Catherine of Siena, and the Death of Saint Joseph. These works reflect the sacred art of the time and the cultural role of churches as places of preservation of artistic heritage.
The building, owned by the commune of Réallon, is part of a rural landscape where churches served as gathering points for the faithful and local ceremonies. In the 16th century, the Hautes-Alpes were a region marked by agriculture, breeding and a social organization strongly linked to the Church, which played a central role in the daily and spiritual life of the inhabitants.
