Origin and history

The Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Allemans is a Roman Catholic religious building, partially listed as a historical monument since 1926. Its unique nave, built in the twelfth century, is marked by two vaulted spans of cupolas on pendants, while the third span has a slightly ogival cradle. The flat bedside, reinforced by corner foothills, seems to date back to the 15th or 16th century. Originally, the church was fortified with defence chambers and heavy houses, characteristic of the religious constructions of this period in Périgord.

In the 19th century, two side chapels dedicated to the Virgin and Saint Joseph were added on both sides of the nave. One of them was founded in 1852 by M. Ducluzeau de Larivière, the other thanks to the gifts of the faithful. The bell tower, built in 1905, is inspired by the Byzantine style of Saint-Front Cathedral of Périgueux, adding a distinctive architectural touch. The façade was redesigned in the 17th century, and subsequent modifications strengthened its structure, especially with massive foothills.

The church retains defensive evidence of its historical role in an area marked by medieval conflicts. Its architecture thus combines Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine influences, reflecting the stylistic evolutions and the practical needs of its various construction periods. Partial protection for historic monuments in 1926 underlined its heritage importance, especially for its domes and flat bedside illuminated by windows in the middle of the hangar.
