Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Dagny-Lambercy is a religious monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. It is distinguished by its elevated position, surrounded by a cemetery, and accessible by a recent staircase replacing an old hedge. Its location makes it a central point of the village, overlooking the main street that partially encircles it.
In the Middle Ages, the right of patronage of this parish belonged to the abbot of the monastery of Thenailles, reflecting the influence of local religious institutions. The ecclesiastical revenues (dimes) were shared between the parish priest-curé, the abbey of Saint-Nicaise in Reims and the abbey of Thenailles, illustrating the complex links between the spiritual powers and monastic structures of the region.
The church, typical of medieval parish buildings, played a central role in community life. It served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, strengthening social and religious ties. Cemeteries around churches, as here, were common at this time, symbolizing the proximity between life and death in medieval Christian culture.
