Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Mauron is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Mauron, Brittany. Built in the 16th century, it is distinguished by its architecture and artistic heritage, including its southern portal, which was listed as historical monuments in 1925. This portal, coming from the old church, presents geminated doors with carved vantals and decorated windows. A column adorned with a niche and dais crowns the central hem, while the tympanum bears an inscription mentioning a date (1580 or 1525) and the name of the sculptor, Pierre Moënerie.
Inside, the sacristy houses Louis XIII style carpentry, adding to the historic richness of the site. The church also preserves a classified pictorial work, a Crucifixion dated 1685, signed "MOURAUD". These elements demonstrate the artistic and cultural importance of the building in the region. The southern gate, specifically protected by decree of 15 May 1925, remains one of Mauron's heritage jewels, reflecting the know-how of the artisans of the time.
Located in the Morbihan department, St Peter's church is part of the Breton religious landscape, marked by a strong tradition of sacred art and medieval and Renaissance architecture. Its location, in the heart of the commune, makes it a central place for local life, both spiritual and heritage. Available sources, such as Monumentum and Wikipedia, highlight its role in the architectural history of the region, while highlighting the artistic details that make it unique.
