Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Piolenc is a religious monument located in the commune of Piolenc, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Dating from the 11th century, it illustrates the medieval architectural heritage of this geographical area. Its very existence bears witness to the importance of religious buildings in the organization of provençal villages at that time.
In the 11th century, Provence was marked by a rural and agricultural society, where churches played a central role. These buildings served not only as places of worship but also as gathering points for local communities. Their construction often reflected the resources and know-how available in the region, while meeting the spiritual and social needs of the inhabitants.
