Origin and history

The church Saint-Pierre de Renaison is a parish church built at the end of the 19th century in the commune of Renaison, in the Loire department. Its construction, decided in 1887, began in 1893 thanks to a fund-raising organized among the inhabitants. The works ended in 1896, the year of its inauguration, although the bell tower was only added in 1910, at the request of the Renaisonnais.

The church was blessed in 1898 by Bishop Bonnardet, vicar general of Lyon. A remarkable part of its heritage is its organ, acquired in 1981 by the association Saint-Roch. This instrument, built in 1880 by the Abbey brothers, was originally installed in the chapel of the Work of Saint-Nicolas in Paris. After restoration, it was inaugurated in 1983 in the church choir. Its instrumental part was listed as a Historic Monument in 1991.

The construction of the church reflects the commitment of the local community, both for its initial realization and for its subsequent development, such as the bell tower or organ installation. These additions reflect the inhabitants' attachment to this place of worship, which remains a symbol of Renaison's religious and architectural heritage.
