Origin and history
Saint-Pierre del Pech Church is a Catholic church located in Saint-Maurin, Lot-et-Garonne department, New Aquitaine. Built in the 12th, 15th and 19th centuries, it is distinguished by its medieval architecture, including its steeped bedside consisting of an axial apse and two transept-forming apsidioles. A unique nave with three spans, a derailed tower at the crossing of the transept, as well as a southern lateral chapel and a northern seigneurial chapel complete his plan. In medieval times, this church depended on the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Maurin and was part of the diocese of Cahors.
The monument is surrounded by a cemetery in the south and is two kilometres north of the village of Saint-Maurin. He was registered as a historical monument by order of 9 July 1998, also including the soil of the adjoining cemetery. The building, owned by the commune, reflects the religious and architectural history of the region, marked by the influence of Benedictine abbeys and the evolution of styles between the Middle Ages and the 19th century.
Under the Old Regime, this parish played a central role in local life, serving as a place of worship, community gathering and burial. Churches like Saint Peter del Pech were often focal points for religious and social activities, linked both to the spiritual life of the faithful and to the territorial organization of rural parishes.
